This is for you, Drew.

This isn’t your normal webmaster. He’s been incarcerated. Out of school suspension on numerous accounts, all of which are completely baseless. Drew the webmaster has been wronged by one very, very red-faced, unreasonably cruel excuse for an administrator, Mark Ballou. This has gone on for too long. He is a menace to our school who uses “administrative discretion” to put innocent students in suspension.

Screen Shot of the Day

Well here is the screen shot of the day. This screen shot was taken from the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog game comming out for the X-Box 360. I am hoping this game delevires the speed of other Sonic games using the X-Box 360 hardware the way it could be used. It has a good deal of potential, I just do not want it to be wasted. Here is a quick glimpse of the beauty that is known as Sonic the Hedgehog.

Nintendo 64 on the PSP

PSmonkey is making even more progress on his highly anticipated Nintendo 64 emulator. I cant wait for this one to come out. *drools* Nothing sounds more fun to me right now than playing Super Smash Bros. on my PSP. That is not going to happen soon, but much progress has been made. Here is some information from PSmonkey.

Are games running? Well no they aren’t. Currently I am experimenting with two roms. The first is Mortal Kombat trillogy & the second is the PD rom VNes (nes emu by JL-Picard). Both are calling on the rdp to render and have been a great source to help advance emulation. So what about mario? Well actualy mario is also using the rsp yet is waiting on me to implement vector opcodes. Once I can get mortal kombat playable then I will start up on vector ops in hopes of getting mario up and running soon.

A new release is expected on the 9th. We will see what improvements are made. You can check out the full article on PSmonkey’s site [here].

Unholy Alliance Tour

A new metal tour was just announced this past Saturday. It is definitely one not to be over looked. The bands that are going to be on the venue are as follows, Slayer, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Mastodon, and Thine Eyes Bleed. This is one of the most impressive band lists for a concert I have seen in a long time. Maybe OzzFest 2006 will out due it, though I doubt it. It is rumored Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed are playing… Any ways here are the tour dates thus far.

06/06 - San Diego, CA @ Sports Arena
06/07 - Las Vegas, NV @ The Orleans
06/12 - St. Louis, MO @ Pop’s Outside
06/13 - Chicago, IL @ Aragon Ballroom
06/15 - Camden, NJ @ Tweeter Center
06/16 - E. Rutherford, NJ @ Continental Airlines Arena
06/17 - Lowell, MA @ Tsongas Arena
06/23 - San Antonio, TX @ Freeman Coliseum
06/25 - Houston, TX @ Reliant Arena
06/29 - Cleveland, OH @ Tower City Amphitheatre
07/06 - Detroit, MI @ Cobo Arena
07/07 - Eagles Auditorium
07/14 - Seattle, WA @ Qwest Field Event Center
07/16 - Salem, OR @ Salem Armory
07/19 - San Jose, CA @ HP Pavilion
07/21 - Mesa, AZ @ Mesa Amphitheatre
07/22 - Long Beach, CA @ Long Beach Arena.

As you can see Atlanta isn’t going to have stop. I want to know why! OzzFest does not come to Atlanta, which is bad enough, then The Unholy Alliance is going to skip the ATL also. *sighs* Any way, it is going to be an awesome show. Hopefully they ad Atlanta to the list.

Hello loyal Fetal Position readers. Here is todays screenshot. It comes from the upcoming game called Blue Dragon, being developed by MistWalker. MistWalker is an independent developer led by, Hironobu Sakaguchi, who used to be a producer at Square. So far it is set to come out next year on the X-Box 360. It is a rpg ^-^. By just looking you can figure it out by yourself, but if you can not tell, it is based off of art from Akira Toriyama. Oblivion Release Date Offical

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion now finally has an official release date. This highly anticipated game is going to be on store shelves on March 20th. This is the game I have been wanting to get before the X-Box 360 even launched. I believe this will be the best application for the 360 yet, and probably for a while, though 99 Nights does look promising.

SNES - Best System Ever Created?

Along my random searching through [Digg], I came across an article that caught my attention. The thesis of this article states that there will never be a better gamming console tan the good ole SNES. I personally agree. The will NEVER be a system as well design, with such great games, and more fun than the Super Nintendo. You can read the 4 page article yourself here at

Sony PS3 Delay

Another delay… wow … Who would have guessed that one? This one is a little more serious than the previous delays posted here. This time it is the PS3. Here is a statement directly from Market Watch.

4:02pm 02/24/2006
Sony (48.29, +0.78, +1.6%) may be forced to delay the launch of its PlayStation 3 console until the autumn, according to published reports. The launch, originally scheduled for the spring, could be delayed for months because of the failure to set the specifications of the Blue-ray DVD technology, a Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman said, according to Kyodo News. A group of about 80 Blu-ray DVD manufacturers, including Sony Corp. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., did not set specifications for the advanced DVD format by the end of last year, Kyodo reported. Manufacturing is scheduled to begin at the end of the month, Kyodo reported.

Nice job Sony. Atleast we still have hopes for the Nintendo Revolution.

Colored Nintendo DS Lites Delayed

Nintendo DS Lite

No suprise with all of the set backs the video game world has been seeing of late. The new Ice Blue and Enamel Navy Nintendo DS Lites will be delayed. The original white ones will be released as usual. Why the wierd delay you ask? The colored DS Lites are having a problem with their colors running. The new date for the colored units is March 11th.

20 Years of Link Image

Well I came across this cool picture when I was making my usual rounds of the [QJ Nintendo DS Blog]. Its been flying around the internet, so I thought I should show it here. It is called the Evolution of Link. Anyways, I guess I will quit blabbering about it, and just show you the picture.

Evolution of Link

There you have it. Hope you enjoyed it. It will be nice when we actually get to play as that final interpretation of Link. *sighs*

Mario Kart Decal Creator

Mario Kart DS

Mario Kart DS has been out for a good while now. I bought me a copy, and strongly suggest anybody else that owns a DS to do so. Its a great game, with even better online multiplayer. Ahhh…. Nintendo WiFi… Anyway, one of the cool features about the game is the ability to create your own icon, decal, image, whatever you want to call it, to represent … YOU! Unless you are a professional 2D artist your drawings are not going to come out looking that beautiful… Until now! I came across this website that has an online converter, where you can upload an image from your hard drive, and it will turn it into the 32 x 32 pixel image you need for Mario Kart DS, AND, it shows you how to draw it, pixel by pixel. ^-^ You can find the site [here]

For those of you who have NO idea on what your doing, here is a little “walkthrough”.

Step 1 : Click Browse…
Step 2 : Choose a picture that you want to convert. (try and make is kinda small/simple for better outcome)
Step 3 : Click on Closest Color (it usually gives me the better looking icon)
Step 4 : Click Make it a decal!

Once this is done it will take a second to load and then Poof! There is your icon. It will then show the icon on the lower half of the page. The bigger scaled picture is how to draw it on your DS, while the smaller one is how it will look on your Kart.

Well I hope this helped out on “tricking out your sick ride” Hehe… Anyway have fun. Post comments of the pictures you uploaded to show others.

Zelda: Twilight Princess Delay… Again

As expected, and rumored, Zelda: Twilight Princess has been delayed… AGAIN! Now it has been set all the way back till Fall of 2006. I do not know about you, but that makes me cry inside. Any rumors about it coming out for the new Nintendo Revolution are also put to shambles. It is a gamecube only launch. The original release date was set for Fall of 2005.

Yup you read it, you can know browse the internet with your X-box 360. Things may be a little deciving though. What this program does it create an “image” on a website for you to surf on your 360. You can not enter in text for searches, signing in, or anything of that matter. You can follow links, but that is about it. It is a big step, and more is on the way I am sure. Here are the directions to set it up thanks to X-box 360 Updates.

Go to http://www.anpark.com/software.aspx
Click on “Download Now (591 Kb)”
Double click on MCEBrowserSetup.msi and just click next
Start your Xbox360 and go into Media Center
Go into “More Programs” and choose the “Browser” Entry.
Add Favorites to your 360 from your PC, by going into:

C:\ then “Documents and Settings” folder, then the “MCX#” folder
(# is a number, it depends on how many times you did manually reconnect the 360 to the PC , so it changes for everyone. The highest number is the latest, so choose that folder)

A Real Pokemon Game for DS

A new Pokemon game is finally being released for the Nintendo DS. This time it is not a racing game… and it is not a puzzle game… It is actually a pokemon game including capturing, and fighting Pokemon. The name is Pokemon Ranger and it is comming out on March 23rd. The graphics are very impressing. There are also a few new inovations to the game, including the use of the stylus which will be a first (for a traditional Pokemon game), but also there are a few new gameplay additions. Not much is out about them yet, though what I have seen seems intresting… I am surely going out to buy this game the day it comes out. I will keep you posted with any updates.

You can find more of screen shots [here].

4 GB Hard Drive for the Nintendo DS

Datel MAX has created a 4 GB Hard Drive for the Nintendo DS. This is the same company who made the 4 GB Hard Drive for the PSP. It will have a media player built into the Hard Drive, though the exact supported codecs is still unkown. The current question is “Will it be able to play homebrew/roms, and is so, how well?” This could be something to look out for. It will cost about $225, which is more that the Nintendo DS itself lol. If you got the money, this will be one nifty little gadget for your DS.

Nintendo is giving them the go ahead to see what they can do. Will they be able to do it is the question. This deffinatly has caught my attention. Any news concerning this matter will be posted here.

HALO 2 ON PC! NO HOAX!

This was taken directly from the official Bungie website.

“The game WILL be for Windows Vista, as in, not for Windows XP, so you have a while to get used to that and complain to me about what a jerk I am to Windows 3.1 users.”

So its offical, there will be atleast one good application for the new Windows Vista Opperating System. Thats not all though. Read on!

“There will also be some kind of map-customization ability. Does that mean you can build your own maps from scratch, pixel by pixel, importing your own textures, scripts and detailed shaders? Or does it mean one empty room and a crate? Well, we’ll have more news on that later this year, but it will be cool, we guarantee that.”

Ragnarok for DS?

There are some rumors out there now stating that a version of the anime themed MMORPG is in the works for the Nintendo DS. This would be a HUGE title to bring the the DS. I am personally hoping this rumor is true unlike the phony redesigned DS hoax. Here are the two screen shots that have been floating around cyberspace.

Nintendo DS - New Features

The Nintendo DS is doing amazing seeling more units than any other console at the moment. Its a solid portible console with very inovative features. Nintendo is now ADDING to these features including, A new download serice. This is taken directly from the nintendo website.

“DS Download Service: Starting next month, Nintendo will offer all DS owners free downloadable game demos and other downloadable content at thousands of participating retail locations around the United States. An in-store kiosk will beam wireless demo versions of games and other downloadable content into a players’ Nintendo DS system. Users simply stop by the store with their Nintendo DS, click “DS Download Play” on their system and choose one of a variety of DS games they want to sample. The game will download automatically and users can play all they want (even if they leave the store) until the Nintendo DS is turned off.

Sequentially, players can try out as many games as they want, letting them test drive the wide array of games that can only be played on Nintendo DS. The first DS Download Service stations will include free demos of Tetris DS, Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day, Mario Kart DS, Meteos, True Swing Golf and Pokémon Trozei, along with a Metroid Prime Hunters video clip. The selection of games and other downloadable content at DS Download Service kiosks will refresh quarterly.”.

Along with this there is still the Metriod Prime : Hunters VoIP, the new Nintendo DS Lite, also the Nintendo WiFi system has 1 million users.

You can read the full article [here].

Voice Chat Confirmed for Metriod Prime Hunters

Metroid Prime Hunters, currently the most anticipated game to come out for the Nintendo DS, will suport voice over IP chating in the game lobbies. There will be no chat capibilites during game play unfortunatly. This is a huge step forward for Nintendo, finally using the built in Microphone on the Nintendo DS (for something serious other than blowing up baloons on Mario Kart). The Question is “What will be the quality of the VoIP on the DS?” We shall just have to wait to see until March.

Intro: Blender

Out of the depths of the joint efforts of the Dutch companies Neo Geo and Not a Number Technologies, now labeled the Blender Foundation formed Blender. A free, open-source, 3D modeling and Animation program, Blender is published under the GNU General Public License (The very same that brought you the flavors of Linux).

Blender has the ability to compete with today’s high-dollar (if you like staying legal), high-end, 3D modeling and animation programs (such as 3D Studio Max and Maya) with the exception of not needing to fork over hundreds to thousands of dollars (or bandwidth) to have access to 3D modeling capabilities. With Blender’s current advancements, and the advancements to come, i have no doubt Blender will become more competetive in the industry. Blender’s power is already being put to the test with the animated open movie project named Project Orange. The creaters of Project Orange are not only utlizing Blender, but are helping build Blender into something we all want it to be: A free, easily accessable alternative to our more popular high-end 3D products.

Without further adu, i link you to my hobby, my obession: Blender.

More to be added soon.

Nintendo DS Jump Superstars Review

Shonen Jump Superstars

Jump Superstars plays like no other 2D fighter ever created. It feels like a hybrid of Smash Brothers and Mario Brothers with fighting mechanics Street Fighter would be envious of. From the first fight you can feel the influence Nintendo had on the development of Jump Superstars as the arenas and sound effects are reminiscent of the original Super Mario Brothers. So did Nintendo of Japan and Jump Magazine do the Jump Manga world a great service by creating this 2D fighter? Let’s dive in and find out.

Get Ready!

The first step on the way to becoming the ultimate Manga fighter champion is to select one of the starting Koma compilations. Koma are spaces occupied by a series of characters that a player can use once engaged in battle. When in battle, Koma will appear on the DS touch screen. This Koma screen consists of a 4 x 5 grid which can hold up to twenty Koma. These Koma are distributed to create either a battle character, a support character, or a help character.

Koma

* 1 Koma is a help character * 2-3 Koma are a support character * 4-6 Koma are battle characters

Battle characters are what the player controls in battle. If more than one battle character is available, the player can swap between them while fighting. A support character is one that when activated comes out for a short period of time to unleash a special attack on the other players. This type of Koma requires that the player has at least one special attack meter filled up. The special attack meter can be filled by collecting the Mario Brothers like coins throughout the battle. A help character is one that heals, fills the special attack meter, or boosts a battle character. This type of Koma also requires at least one special attack meter to be full.

GO!!

With an initial Koma selected the single player game awaits. Once entered, the single player game consists of a world map where players move between different challenges. The challenges alternate between straight up battles and missions. Missions require that some sort of goal is met like destroying all the walls in the arena or not getting hit by the other player.

So with a battle or mission selected the real meat of the game begins. Jumping or double jumping around the platforms gets you moving and in position to unleash an attack. Two buttons are used for normal attacks, one is used for the battle characters’ special attack, and the touch screen is used to unleash support/help/battle character attacks. Along with these basic attacks, many combos are available where the battle characters join forces to unleash major damage.

After beating the snot out of the opponents, they’ll eventually turn a light gray color which means they’re almost done for. With a few more hits they’ll be KO’d. KO is what Jump Superstars uses to determine the winner. If you KO someone else you get a point, if you get KO’d you lose a point. The total is tallied up at the end of the battle and the KO point leader wins if playing a straight up battle.

After each battle or mission the results are displayed along with a list of all the sub goals that were completed. That’s right there are sub goals within each battle. Each time you get a certain number of sub goals completed you unlock more Koma but that’s not the only way to unlock Koma. There are also times where a silhouette of a character and a saying appear. If you drag the correct Manga character onto the silhouette you unlock the Koma which are called Serif Koma. The last way to unlock Koma is by far the most inventive. The player has to buy or download a copy of Jump Magazine for the month of August 2005. In this magazine there is a page with patterns that are to be placed over the DS touch screen and traced. If traced correctly the Koma is unlocked. How’s that for a serious marketing tie in? All these Koma, once unlocked, come to a grand total of over 150 and let me tell you it takes a very long time to unlock all of them.

After a battle or mission it’s back to the world map to move along to the next challenge. Each challenge takes place in a world. There are four worlds in the Jump Superstars universe to conquer and the first time fighting through these worlds doesn’t take all that long. That’s if you ignore sub goals and side missions and just plow on through to the end. I think all in all each world took about an hour to two hours or a little more to complete the first time through. But then if you want all the Koma it will take six or seven times that to go back and complete every sub goal.

Clear!

All in all the game is absolutely packed with content that looks and feels like the inside of a Manga. The graphics of Jump Superstars are very clean and well animated and most of the time, look like a smoother version of a Gameboy Advance game. When the special attacks and combos get going on the screen it becomes a true DS game as the GBA would never be able to handle it. All of the menus, world map, arenas, and characters are standard 2D sprites and are for the most part very visually appealing.

The sounds of Jump Superstars are much like the sights, low key but well implemented. The really impressive part for the DS is when four players butt heads with huge combos which result in a huge amount of sounds being mixed together at the same time. It really shows off what the DS sound system is capable of. Along with the technical feats there are fun nostalgia inducing sounds as well. This is best illustrated by the coin sound effect which is identical to the Super Mario coin sound effect that we’ve all been hearing for years. Another well executed feature of Jump Superstars is the use of the Touch Screen. This is the first case I can think of where the stylus just won’t cut it as character selection on the Touch Screen is best executed by using your thumbs. This gives the feel of having an extra controller embedded in the DS. It’s like having one more D-Pad that is easily accessible and useable right at your thumb tips. I have to admit that at first I was trying to use the regular stylus quite awkwardly but once I discovered the thumb configuration there was no going back.

When the single player game has become tiresome there’s still much more to do. The best of which is the multiplayer. This alone could have been a stand alone game that would have sold through the roof. AI bots are one thing but playing against a real human is a whole other deal. While playing multiplayer it’s possible to share one game between up to four players, but if you do that you’ll have to use the Koma of whoever is hosting the game. Otherwise if you have your own game cartridge you can use your own Koma and even swap Koma between your friends. This is definitely a case of DS WiFi at its best. The multiplayer replay value alone is worth the cost of the cartridge. Let’s just hope that for Jump Superstars 2, which must already be in development, the WiFi multiplayer gameplay goes online.

Verdict

So if you like the gameplay you’ll have a ton of replay value here. The problem is that this replay value feels and is extremely reliant on repetition. Many of the missions are nearly identical and all the battles are very similar. This fact alone is why I think most 2D fighters’ single player game is always short. But as I said, if you’re really into the battles or want a game you can come back to time and time again without completing it, then this might be a smart buy just for longevity and multiplayer.

Japanese

As with most fighting games, the Japanese text plays a small role in the actual gameplay. With that said, all of Jump Superstars can be enjoyed without understanding one bit of Japanese. The only problems you might encounter are not understanding what the goals of a particular mission are. Thankfully this is an extremely popular import and there are many FAQs available which I will reference at the end of this review.

Worldwide Release So will you be seeing this on store shelves in your part of the world? Not a chance. IGN sums it up best by saying, “Given the licensing complexities, it’d be virtually impossible to release this title outside Japan. For example, the US license of Dragon Ball is exclusively held by Atari, while One Piece is handled by Bandai.” So import this one as it’ll never reach your neck of the woods.

Pros

* All your favorite Jump Manga characters * Deep battle system * Huge amount of replay value * Japanese doesn’t hinder gameplay

Cons

* Repetitive Single Player

Overall Score 9.0

Nintendo DS Lite Pictures and Information

Well there were some rumors of a new DS being designed. Well its not really that much differnent from the first. There where a few “fake” creations. One even looked alot like the Game Boy SP. This is the real one. Its called the Nintendo DS Lite. It is planned to be relased on March 2nd, 2006 (in Japan). The new version will be released also in the states but no specific date has been set as of yet. The aproximate price of the new DS will be around $145, about the same as the original at release. The new version is smaller (Length 133mm ,Width 73.9mm, Height 21.5 mm when folded). It is also lighter (218 grams, the original DS weighed 275 grams). The final new feature is that the new screen will have a screen backlight level adjuster. The DS Lite will have 4 levels to this new light. Here are some pictures for ya.

Nintendo DS Lite Comparison

It’s great that Nintendo is improving on the DS, but what about people that went out and bought the original… For being loyal Nintendo fans, and buying the new handheld system at launch, why does Nintendo put out a better one…? *sighs* Oh well. It looks sexy. I can not wait to see how much better the screen really is.

So you want to Downgrade your 2.0 PSP to 1.50

Ok many people are always asking me “So Drew how did you get that awesome program on your PSP?” I get tired of repeating myself. I gave put together a little guide on how to do downgrade, and what files you will need. There is a possibility of “bricking” your PSP. I have done it multiple times now and have had no problems though. *shrugs* Anyway this is how it is done.

The first file you need to get is the original 1.5 eboot file. You can download that here

The second file you need to download is the MPH Downgrader. That can be obtained here.

The last thing you need is a decompresing/unzipping program. I personaly use WinRar but you may prefer to use another like WinZip. Its up to you.

So first step unzip both downloads. Just have them sent to your desktop so you dont lose them.

Second. You need to make an UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME. This is where you put the unziped eboot file I had you download earlier. This is the file that the PSP loads as the new Firmware.

Next you need to put the overflow.tif file in your PSP/PHOTO file.

The last thing you need to do to get your files ready is that you still have to place the h.bin and index.dat files in the Root Directory of your PSP. Not in your PSP folder but its parent folder. Then plug in your AC/DC adapter into your PSP and you are ready to downgrade.

To initiate the Downgrade you need to go view that overflow.tif file in your photos. Just scroll over it, and a Black sreen will come up with white text. When that happens you have completed the first step. This freezes your PSP, so you need to hold the power button up for 10 seconds to do a hard shut down. You can just take out the battery if you want… lol

After the hard shut down, you then need to go into your Games and run the 1.50 downgrader. Let the program run. You willl have to hit X a few times. Once it is done you WILL recieve an error message. This is a good thing (nice for a change eh?). After that you will have to force your PSP to shut down again. Just hold the power button up for 10 seconds.

Next turn your system back on and another error message will appear. Just press O.

You now have a 1. 5 PSP if you follow all these steps correctly. Go check your accomplishment in your system info. Have fun running Homebrew till your little gamer/hacker’s heart is content. ^-^
